Hey guys and girl or perhaps you prefer twit?

By no means am I the first to do this but here is my take on twitter etiquette or at least some ways to avoid you breaking it.

It is Friday today, which means a trip to the bar tonight for many including myself. Now that usually means an excessive amount of alcohol is consumed, which causes our mouths to disconnect from brains. So  as you are aware alcohol causes Foot in Mouth Disease in most people. So you might be type of person becomes overly friendly or conversely very aggressive argumentative. You almost certainly cant spell or type to save your life so will most likely send out messages that are complete gobbledygook to your follows.

So Rule 1) Twittering when drunk can be dangerous. If you are likely to say something you would regret do not use twitter! Don’t upset or anger your friends and follows. You’ll regret it after the hangover.

Twitter is a one to many relationship. That is your sending a message to everyone that follows you and potentially everyone who follows the person you @ reply to. So make sure you are adding to the conversation when you are replying to someone.

Rule 2) Converse with your friends. When you tweet make it about something they can interact with you. If you need to chat to one person try doing a direct message unless it is of a benefit to rest of your followers. Don’t needlessly clutter up everyone Else’s feed if you can help it.

As I am writing this a Fellow twitter posted some of the reasons he un-follows find his tweet here

What are your Reasons For Unfollowing? I hate promotional tweets, constants quotes with no personal messages, and offensive language.

I would have to add that Racism would probable be my biggest gripe that gets you unfollowed and blocked. I am not so bothered by promotional tweets if they are of general use to me. Such as Ed Dale who promotes the awesome Thirty Day Challenge.

Rule 3) Do not discriminate against people on twitter it is not nice it is not clever and a lot of people will hate you for it and they will likely tell all their friends and just in the space of 140 characters. Play nice!
