Hello my name is Brendan Will BSc and I am website designer.
I graduated this year 2008 from the University of Dundee, Scotland with a degree in Applied Computing. The degree focused on designing and building applications that are accessible and usable. Personally I find desktop programming rather dull compared to website design. You can get a lot of people using your website. Can you get as many people using a desktop application?
So where does my degree fit into web design? Well you might have heard of “Search Engine Optimization”. Now to rank well in the search engines one of the components you need to factor in when optimizing your website is Usability and Accessibility. It is something that I focus on when I start any website design. In some countries it is now illegal to operate a website which does not comply with disability laws such as the Disability Discrimination Act which applies here in the United Kingdom.
